Pride Volleyball Coaching Staff
Varsity Head Coach
This is Coach Gray's fifth year as Varsity Head Coach at Mountain Pointe High School. Prior to being named the Varsity Head Coach, Coach Gray was the Head JV Coach for the 2011 and 2012 season. In 2016 Coach Gray led the team to the State Semi Finals and was named the Big Schools Coach of the Year by the Arizona Republic.
Karen began playing volleyball at age 14 and following a successful high school career in Maryland, she earned a full volleyball scholarship to Villanova, a Big East NCAA Division I program. As a 4 year starter at Villanova, Karen held the all-time kills record which stood for more than ten years and won several all-tournament awards as a middle blocker during her collegiate career. After college, Karen played the middle blocker position for three USAV Open Nationals teams. She continues to play competitive volleyball.
Coach Gray is also an associate club director and club coach for the past ten years and has coached several of the top club teams in the state.
Varsity Assistant Coach
Andrew is starting his third season with the Lady Pride Volleyball Program as the Assistant Varsity Coach.
Andrew was a four year Varsity player for Hamilton High School and then played on ASU's Men's Club Team from 2010-2011. Andrew coaches boys at Higley High School and both girls and boys at a local volleyball club.
Junior varsity head coach
Coach John is joining the staff this year as the Junior Varsity Head Coach and will be the Head Sand Coach in the Spring. She graduated from Georgia State in the Spring of 2016.
Jansen played beach volleyball at Georgia State for four years where she was named a 2015 AVCA All-American. She and her partner went 25-11 in their final season and were named to the inaugural Coastal Collegiate Sports Association's all-conference team. That season ended with the Panthers earning their second consecutive trip to the national championships in Gulf Shores.
Coach John was a four-year letter winner at Paloma Valley High School where she earned numerous awards and accolades ... 2008 Honorable Mention All-Sunbelt League and Second Team All-Sunbelt League in 2009 ... First All-Sunbelt League 2010 and 2011 ... Set a school record of 530 varsity career digs at Paloma Valley and set a record for most varsity career games played with 237 ... Broke the dig record with 13 digs in a single set against Hemet High School in 2011, finishing the match with 27 total digs ... Named MVP senior year ... Played sand club with 692 West, and also played for the USA Travel Performance Team ... Member of the National Honor Society junior and senior years ... Part of the Scholastic Honor Society and a Seal Bearer sophomore, junior and senior years.
Freshman Head Coach
Coach Fazz is excited to coach her 15th season for the Mountain Pointe High School Freshman Volleyball program.
Coach Fazz is from Yuma, Arizona where she played four years of volleyball at Cibola High School and later returned to her Alma Mater to coach the freshmen volleyball team for two years. Coach Fazz graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education. While attending NAU, she kept her skills honed by participating in intramural leagues. In August 2006, she received her Master's Degree in Administration & Supervision from the University of Phoenix.
Coach Fazz and her husband, Herman, have one son, Aedan and a daughter, Alexa. Coach Fazz truly enjoys playing volleyball, but most of all loves coaching and teaching the sports fundamentals to up and coming players. She believers in hard work, dedication and determination to be a winner and is looking forward to working with another talented group of young lades this season.
